Bob- both problems are typical / normal. Your trannys internal rubber piston
seals are getting stiff and brittle. When it sits overnight the fluid drains
out of the piston bores & passages. That's why it takes a while to "hook up"
when you start it. The pump has to refill all those cavities, then the
clutches engage. Some times you can put in some transmission seal
conditioner and it will soften them up enough to make it work better. But,
it's not a substitute for a rebuild.
On the clattering lifters...try changing to a different brand oil filter
and see if it still does it. Mine always did do that with a Fram, but
stopped with a Motorcraft. Some times the anti drainback valve leaks thru on
them and all the oil runs back to the pan. When you start it the filter and
the galleys all have to refill. That's why the lifters clatter....due to
lack of oil. Phil
I have 2 problems:
1.C4 transmission let it set overnight and start the next morning
it takes about 2-3 minutes before the transmission kicks in ??
2. Same car 289 next morning it seem all of the oil has drained off of
the heads when the car is started it takes a minite before the lifter
noise is gone??
