When the dimming situation is in effect, can you do a voltage check, first across the batteryto establish a baseline, then from the battery terminal to the ignition circuit, where it connects to the ignition switch? I believe it's the battery wire, which is heavy gauge yellow from what I remember. Is it possible that you have resistance where the solenoid stack up is, the "hot" side where the battery connects? Maybe the wire that is usually sandwiched between the cable and solenoid, which is the "battery" wire for the ignition circuit. You shouldn't see a significant drop in voltage. Terry Turner 63 Galaxie Conv. -----Original Message----- From: galaxie-bounces at lists.twistedpair.ca [mailto:galaxie-bounces at lists.twistedpair.ca] On Behalf Of Dick Barnes Sent: Monday, September 15, 2008 7:33 AM To: galaxie at lists.twistedpair.ca Subject: [GALAXIE] More on starting problem First, thanks to all who have responded with advice, I really appreciate it! The problem still exists, here's what I've done to try to solve it in addition to the new starter and solenoid. All cables have been removed, inspected and all connections cleaned including all cable ends, starter terminal, engine block where ground connects, battery posts ect. All connections are tight. Battery is 675 cca and has been more than powerful enough until this came up. I have also connected jumper cables from battery to solenoid, solenoid to starter, battery to ground. I have connecter jumper cables from my 2007 silverado to battery and also directly to solenoid and to engine block. Triggered the solenoid with jumper from batt positive to solenoid. Nothing has had any effect, problem remains the same. It takes time to try each of these because once the starter begins to turn properly the problem disappears until it has set for several hours. Here's a new wrinkle. This morning I 1st turned on the headlights and they were very dim, tried the starter for a few seconds, same thing, 1st nothing, then solenoid clicked. At that point I turned off ignition and the headlights slowly brightened, hit the starter again and it worked normally! Obviously there is a bad connection somewhere in the system that seems to make contact after demand is put on it, but where in the h--l is it! Again thanks to all for your input, Regards, Dick ----- Original Message ----- From: <galaxie-request at lists.twistedpair.ca> To: <galaxie at lists.twistedpair.ca> Sent: Friday, September 12, 2008 10:37 PM Subject: Galaxie Digest, Vol 66, Issue 4 > Send Galaxie mailing list submissions to > galaxie at lists.twistedpair.ca > > To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit > http://lists.twistedpair.ca/mailman/listinfo.cgi/galaxie > or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to > galaxie-request at lists.twistedpair.ca > > You can reach the person managing the list at > galaxie-owner at lists.twistedpair.ca > > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > than "Re: Contents of Galaxie digest..." > > > Today's Topics: > > 1.
